Since the introduction of iTunes, Spotify and other streaming music programs, buying tangible albums has started to become obsolete. I am a big fan of vinyl. I love collected oldies, but I have really started buying current albums. There are some really great pieces of art on a lot of these albums, but it is also the actual vinyl that has become a hidden surprise.

I have picked a few of my favs, some I own and others on my wish list. Washed Out is first, not only are both of their albums have great design, but for their Paracosm album the vinyl is purple. I love being surprised when I see vinyl that isn’t your standard black.

Beach House is another great one, their cover is very simple, but the vinyl is all white. There is something so nice about an all white vinyl record spinning on my turntable.

Rhye’s Open, is on my wish list. This album was a special release for Record Store day and I wish I knew about it before hand. The vinyl for this album is CLEAR! How cool is that?

Future Islands’ In The Fall another wish list addition, I love the fall foliage imagery and the vinyl for this one is blue.

Lastly from my wish list Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream. The tricky thing about this album is there are some that have a red or pink vinyl. That is the one I want, so it will be challenge to find. But I am up for the challenge!

A new year is fast approaching, so in true fashion I am look back on my year with this blog. One great thing about starting this blog, is seeing things that I might have forgotten about. It is also weird to look at my archive and say this was my year in a nutshell. I have to say most of my year was filled with lots of music, more so that ever before.

When picking my “best of” from my posts my music Monday’s are always hard, because each song is picked based on a couple factors; like my mood at that moment, how often I listened to that particular song, or a song that brings me back to specific time or place. So when picking my favs of 2013 i based it off of a moment, a feeling or just how often I listened to a song. I am also very fortunate that a handful of these bands I chose I have seen live. So here they are, enjoy!

  • Rhye: I posted a couple of their songs here & here, I saw them perform live at Outside Lands and was still one of my favorites.

  • Ivan & Alyosha: When I first heard this song I couldn’t stop listening. It even moved into my running mix.

  • Toro Y Moi: I just LOVE this guy I also posted a couple songs here & here. I saw him perform a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t stop dancing. This group has such a great energy I cannot get enough.

  • The National: I have always been a fan of theres, but this album in particular just hooked me and I couldn’t stop listening.

  • Washed Out: this band was a big favorite of mine this year. I seriously listened to this album for two weeks straight. They create these moods, that make me want to get in my car and drive up the coast. I also love listening to them while I work.

  • White Denim: These guys are just pure rock n’ roll to me and that’s why I love them. They have this great blues, funk vibe too. I need to catch them when they are in town.

  • Snakadaktal: This one song in particular I love, I was listening to it on repeat a for a few weeks. The entire album is also great, this is another album I enjoy listening to while I am working.

  • Lapland: this band is pretty under the radar, but after hearing this one song I instantly fell in love. I am sure they will make a bigger impression soon.

  • Jake Bugg: this guy is amazing, he has such a great voice. I remember when I first heard him and then finding out he was only 19, I was shocked.

  • Classixx: this group is kind of a wild card because they are so different than everything else I picked. I really love running to this song, and I was able to see them open for Toro Y Moi. They are a talented group, and they make me want to dance.
