L.A. ADVENTURE {2}: THE OLD PLACE

For this installment of L.A. adventures it was more of an impromptu adventure. I hopped in my car and took a wonderful drive through Malibu canyon to a really cool hidden treasure, The Old Place. Tucked away in Agoura Hills lies this really cool western style bar, that serves very rustic  food. My sister and I enjoyed a giant cheese platter, steak and potatoes and finished it off with an amazing sticky toffee cake, oh man it was good!

The bar is very tiny so it does get crowded fast, but luckily there is a winery next door so you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer while you wait. You can also just explore the grounds. There is a mailroom that can be used for private parties, I totally want to have my birthday party in there. It has been seen in many tv shows like Doctor Quinn Medicine Women.

I think this might be my new favorite place. It is definitely a great date spot. I cannot wait to go back.

L.A. ADVENTURE {1}: WATT'S TOWERS

Over the weekend I had this overwhelming feeling to do something different. So I had the bright idea to start exploring L.A. Even though I have lived here for years, I feel I take this city for granted. So with that said, twice a month I will visit a new spot and bring some friends along for the ride. I am really excited to see where the city takes me.

For my first stop; Watt’s Towers. Surprisingly enough I have never visited this place. It is quite amazing. The only downside I missed the open to the public window by a half hour (so I will be coming back). For now I just admired it from outside the fence. It has a pretty amazing history, built by Italian immigrant Sabato Rodia over a 33 year period. Constructed mostly from found objects like pottery, scrap metal and sea shells. One thing I found interesting he actual had a bungalow within the towers.

I highly recommend checking out the towers, it is a great place to visit and explore.

WINE TASTING

Deciding to take the trip to SF and go wine tasting was the best idea and exactly what I needed. It was so beautiful up on Sonoma, the weather was perfect, the wine was good and the company was great. I have never done a barrel tasting before. You basically visited each vineyard and have a taste straight from the barrel. It was very interesting.

FIRST STOP: Rodney Strong Vineyards, the views alone were amazing. It reminded me a lot of Tuscany, because of the rolling hillsides. One cool thing I have never seen was the grape vines with the fruit. The plants have this spooky character to them, almost like they came out of a Tim Burton film.

THIRD STOP: Wilson Winery, I loved their barrel room. Barrels are stacked to the ceiling great for a good photo op. They also had an amazing view.

At this point, I have lost track of how many vineyards we visited. I think this was the last stop, West Wines. They are a fairly new vineyard, with really good wines. I purchased their Cuvée that’s super yummy. Since this was the last stop we ended up having a photo shoot in their classic Ford truck.

I cannot wait to this again next year!

Hawaiian sunsets are the most beautiful thing to see. Every time I see one it just makes me happy. My last evening on the island, I wanted to capture the dramatic light and color changes. They are pretty spectacular, nature is so amazing!

Aloha!

If you follow me on instagram, you saw a snippet of my zip-lining adventure. If your not afraid of heights I highly recommend it. My dad, my sister and I braved the heights and had an incredible time. When we began our trip it didn’t start at the first zip; it really began with the off-road adventure to the top. We were bounced and twisted around the tight turns and giant bumps to the top. Once we reached the top we began our zipping tour of Mount Kahalawai. There are 8 ziplines, and half way through we enjoyed lunch over looking the valley at over 1000 feet. It was an incredible experience; I know we all had a great time.

Stay tuned for some of the most beautiful sunset, after the jump.

HAWAIIAN ADVENTURES {1}

I know I have been MIA for a few weeks. I have been crazy busy with work and I recently came back from a much needed vacation. I wanted to share a few pictures I snapped from my Hawaiian vacation. I love everything about Hawaii, especially Maui. The warm weather all year round, the beautiful landscape, tropical flowers, green hills and of course the crystal clear water. I also cannot get enough of the Hawaiian sunsets, they are some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.

LEAVING ON A JET PLANE

image

I am so excited, because I am hopping on a plane this weekend for a much over due trip to San Francisco to see one of my favorite people. I plan on doing a lot of eating and drinking. I also plan on visiting my happy place Miette and just hanging around the city. I love visiting SF because it’s not to far and still feels like a mini vacation.

I was looking back on my SF food tour posts from last year {stop 1, stop 2, stop 3, stop 4-6} it was such a fun time. Stay tuned for my fun SF weekend.

TO MY PARENTS

I have never been the strong writer in the family, I am always better at expressing myself through pictures. Thankfully my sister Jennifer is a beautiful writer and expressed my exact feelings for my Mom and Dad on their 40th Anniversary yesterday. Below is her wonderfully written ode to my parents, enjoy!

Today is my amazing and loving parents’ 40th Wedding Anniversary. Yup, I wrote FORTIETH.

I love their wedding picture. It’s one of my favorite pictures of the two of them together. It may simply be because they’re so happy, and I love seeing my family happy. But it also represents to me their lifelong commitment that grew into the tight knit family that I’m so blessed to be a part of today.

I may call you guys fourteen times a day (this is me writing: she really does), often times with nothing substantial to say, but simply just so you know that I love you. Thank you for loving each other, and that love creating Christa and I. Thank you for being so generous with that love with the two of us. It’s a blessing that is never, not for one second, taken for granted. We promise always to be the loving and open-minded human beings that you brought us up to be. And perhaps one day share that love and make that same commitment to some lucky chap. Dad, don’t worry, you’ll always be number one.

Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary, Mom and Dad! I love you so much.

Your favorite daughter (yeah right!!!)

Jennifer

(Just kidding Christa. They love us both the same. But maybe me a little teensy weensy bit more.) (nope)

P.S. My mother made her dress, and her veil. She went on to sew me many beautiful garments, including my junior prom dress that no store bought gown could even compare to . Just one of the many more things that I’m grateful for. And if you can’t tell from this photo, my dad is REAL smart. Thanks for trying to tutor me in Calculus (for me it was algebra, and it was remember-able), papa, to no avail. At least Ms. Miller saw that I was trying and gave me an A anyways (I am pretty sure I passed). That’s a lesson in the rewards of work ethic that you so easily taught me. Thank you.

This is me writing: I love you Mom and Dad. I hope to find someone that makes me as happy as you both have made each other.

Over the weekend I had a full blown birthday celebration. It was a great weekend, Saturday  my family and I visited the Getty Villa in Malibu. It is a stunning place, the architecture is amazing and the views are beautiful. Your surrounded by lush trees, beautiful flowers and ornate fountains. I really loved the ceilings around the garden area, Jennifer and I even had a little fun. For dinner we went to a new restaurant in Santa Monica, stay tuned after the jump.
